Workshop Program for Term 2 2019
All workshops take place at the Stitch Paint Burn Studio in Camden Park, Adelaide, and are suitable for anyone over 13 years of age, including absolute beginners!
Daytime workshops include tea, coffee and cake, and evening workshops, a light meal of soup and rolls.
NEW – Creative Stitch – not your nanna’s embroidery!: $75 for 3 hours
Learn a range of methods for transferring an image onto fabric or paper, to be embellished with stitch. Practice a variety of decorative embroidery stitches which can be used to add to your design, then choose one of the available images to start your own beautiful contemporary artwork. I will provide all materials and equipment needed.
Beginner’s Watercolour On The GO: $75 for 3 hours
Learn the basics of watercolour painting, so that you can confidently document beautiful things that you see on your travels – much more personal than taking photos! You will learn about the materials needed, ideas for creating your own portable kit, as well as many painting and process tips and techniques. I’ll provide all materials, but you could bring some of your favourite holiday snaps as reference material. You will take home your own work of art, a set of water brushes and heaps of new ideas!
Shibori Dyeing: $75 for 3 hours
Learn how to use the traditional Japanese resist-dyeing technique of Shibori, using indigo to add appeal to textile items. Every piece is unique. You will learn a range of folding and stitching techniques, how to make the dye-bath. I will provide gloves, dye and calico to trial techniques on. You will need to bring a plastic bag and might also like to bring your own natural-fibre fabric items to dye.
NEW – Wire Sculpture: $75 for 3 hours
Learn construction techniques to create intricately detailed wire sculptures using pipe cleaners, which are soft and easy to work with. Other elements such as fabric, paper and things from nature can also added to your work. I will provide all tools and materials needed for construction. You will need to bring a dust mask, as we create some floaty bits when the fluff is removed from the pipe cleaners.
Artist’s Book: $90 for 5 hours
Spend the day learning book-binding techniques to create your own hand-bound concertina book, then explore different watercolour and brush techniques, collage, stamping, layout and application of text to transform it into an amazing piece of art! I will provide all materials needed, including a selection of different papers and paints to work with. You will need to bring text from a favourite poem, song lyrics or even a special memory to inspire your work and weave into your design.
Sashiko and Boro: $50 for 3 hours
Boro is the rustic Japanese textile technique of layering fabrics to mend or reinforce them, and sashiko is the stitching used to hold the layers together. Learn a variety of different traditional and modern sashiko designs, and if you’d like, how to create your own designs. I will provide everything you need to make sashiko patches, or bring something that needs some visible mending!
NEW – Learn to Crochet: $50 for 3 hours
Learn the necessary crochet techniques and stitches to start making your own infinity scarf or cowl for winter. I will have a range of yarn that you can choose from, or you might wish to bring your own 100% acrylic yarn to work with. You will take home a crochet hook and the skills to finish what you have started!
